samrat 1 Posted July 24, 2011 There is no difference in poverty, be it in the streets of India or Greece. Thank you for your constructive comments on this photo. Link to comment
rajnishduara 0 Posted July 25, 2011 Great street photo, I like the composition, the position of the legs, the sleeping dog, the look at her eyes; and the way she has kept the dog under control with one of her legs holding tight the rope! Nice story. Definitely one of the finest in your collection. Link to comment
Alex_Es 388 Posted July 25, 2011 How very sad. Beautifully and compassionately rendered. Link to comment
nancygail 0 Posted July 25, 2011 wonderful composition. I agree - it's the position of her foot, with the rope to her dog that makes this especially poignant. Link to comment
samrat 1 Posted July 25, 2011 Thank you all for your comments. I feel that we photographers have a responsibility whether we take up photography as a hobby or a profession. The fact that poverty is still very much there even in the so called developed countries should make us think of how lucky some of us are and what we can do to help people who still need the basics sorted to make a sea-change in their lives. george_tam 0 Posted July 25, 2011 What a wonderful capture- a perfect setting with all the elements for a great picture. This is the kind of picture that can tell a whole story on its own. Love the sleeping dog attached to a rope. Would have loved to see more of the little girl's eyes, as they are in shadow. Other than that, it's a very successful photo. Link to comment

johncrosley 0 Posted October 2, 2011 This is a photo of a child with a dog in the hot 'dog days' or summer, whiling away the time with a a bare accordion-like instrument (not a true accordion, but a cousin), but it's more. It's a photo of shadows and modeling light. The light is more sidelight, and one expects that the sunlight is far left, modeling the creek/river pebbles encased in the street's concrete, the covered cistern?), onto which the child lens and even throwing the child's face partly or mostly into shadow (good choice not to lighten the face and keep the shadow original).Modeling here made also for nice tonalities which you preserved and have presented well. Always watch for side lighting - it's previous and a gift to good photography for the street artist. The modeling effect of late light like this, or diffuse unidirectional light can be wonderful, and that is well demonstrated here. The scattering of the masses here, from the wall to the cistern (?) to the child, to the child's foot to the interesting leash, a line which connects and draws our eye(s) towards the dog's outline as the dog lies outstretched trying to cool on the stone/concrete pavement. This is a photo that only could be taken in the heat of summer and is a summer photo. It's skillfully done and is attractive for the reasons I mentioned.I note that the right angle of the wall, above left, meets at the corner the right angle of the cistern's concrete 'pad', for an interesting geometrical juxtaposition which helps make this photo slightly more complex. You farmed the entire photo very well and followed my own personal rule 'keep all the interesting stuff inside the frame and all the uninteresting stuff outside the frame.'Good job.johnJohn (Crosley) Link to comment
