Thank you, Richard!

Yes, he has quite a 'posture'!  He is a proud little guy and was not even bothered by me when I took this shot.  Being in a birdpark, I suppose he is very used to humans.

Kind regards,

Engela

Engela,  Great capture!  I like everything about it - the soft feathers in contrast with the harder, rustic look, and perhaps most of all, those expressive eyes!

........ you know things must be bad over here, when even our unique birds are seeking assylum in SA............

"Familiarity breeds contentment" and they can get quite tame.

Lovely capture.

Thank you very much for the comments!

Grayham:  I was very fortunate to spot this little guy in the Durban Birdpark in 2009, just before they closed down.  All the birds were bought by the Monte casino owners in Johannesburg and they were all moved to JHB.  A sad day for Durban.  This was such a beautiful park with a big variety of birds, where local and international birds were held.  Ha-ha, I think lots of other countries' birds also got assylum in this park!

Pierre:  Grayham was spot on when he said that this guy is from Australia!  They are indigenous to Australia and New Guinea, their Latin name is Dacelo Leachll and they mostly keep to open woodland and savannas.  (I got all those details from the name tags that were on the cages, and I even took  shots of the tags so I would not forget their names!)

Kind regards,

Engela

Hi Engela............... so sorry to hear of the closure of the Bird park in Durban. I visited often in my days of living in and re-visiting Durban.

Yes, there are refugees everywhere.
