Hi Bill,

Nice capture of a very colorful scene..

I do not recommend the use of many filters for any type off general imaging, since I have hundreds of test reports from my lab showing the aberrations and the definition  loss they introduce to a quality lens. The loss is due to coating irregularities, flatness issues glass quality of the glass, and a dozen other optical issues that plague thin windows.

The color aberration from UV light is rarely seen at F/5.6 in a quality lens, and at F/7.1 is non existent. The post processing in CS5 does a better job with color aberration than do the majority of filters used .

As for extension tube use on a Canon 400mm lens (I have them all) then they do show some performance loss when used to obtain a closer range of focus. I found that a high quality 1.4 X extender provides  better end results for most longer telephoto lens .

Best Regards,  Mike
