I saw these flies invading some Globe Thistle at a nearby Garden

Centre on Sunday. I've never seen them before. I was at another

garden centre yesterday and the Manager used to work specifically

with bugs and he told me the name, I should have written it down. I

had a bit of 'camera shake' (I have trouble most times 'hand holding)

but I was trying some different settings that had been suggested to

me in order to get better detail, and was actually trying to shoot

Manual which I always have trouble with, but I've done more the last

couple of days and seem to be improving. Even though this shot

isn't 'perfect' I wanted to share it as it was one UGLY FLY!!! (thanks

for stopping by, sincerely, Gail)

Hi Gail, thanks for sharing this with us. It's a well executed image, I'm not seeing any real evidence of camera shake. I always work with a monopod in close or with long lenses. Not always the most convenient, but easier than using a tripod. My keeper rate is much higher because of this.  Again, a very nice closeup.-

As ugly as it is, this one's a keeper....... apt caption.

Well done

Hi Gail,

You are starting to get the hang of macro imaging. Excellent shot.

I would like to have seen the lens and camera settings included in the data.

For me, this is a trivial hand held shot, but if you are having difficulties, then a monopod or other steady rests should be employed.

Email me and I will share with you some other techniques that will help you improve your hand held shots, too.

Best Regards,  Mike
