Escaladieu Abbey was a Cistercian abbey, situated at the confluence ofthe Luz and the Arros rivers near the Chateau de Mauvezin in theFrench commune of Bonnemazon in the Hautes-Pyrenees. Its name derivesfrom the Latin Scala Dei ("ladder of God").

The abbey was founded in 1142 and became an important pilgrimage stopon the Way of St. James en route to the Cathedral of Santiago deCompostela. Escaladieu Abbey closed in about 1830 and since 1997 hasbeen owned by the Conseil General des Hautes-Pyrenees, who have openedthe site to visitors and regularly hold concerts, conferences andexhibitions. .
