Landrum Kelly 64 Posted July 14, 2011 Mike, in the mid-seventies, I was out walking late at night (in Gainesville) and noticed a big towering cumulus congestus that was nearing nimbus status--with the moon right "beside" it. Never saw anything like it, with the single cloud towering almost straight up. I sure wish that I could have captured that on film. It was the best night sky I have ever seen, and I have seen some good ones.Another good one was seeing some thin alto-cumulus bands (not the quilted variety) with the full moon in between them. It was the brightest night I have ever seen, with the unimpeded direct light of the full moon along with the light from the bands. It literally felt like being outside during the day, although it was not really as bright as that--but it was bright! That was in the Piedmont of South Carolina when I was a teenager.By the way, all the shots in this folder were made within thirty minutes of each other--of one powerful thunderstorm on July 4.--Lannie Link to comment
