Hi Linda,

One does not require a macro to capture fine details with an excellent lens. The "L" series advantages are seen here.

You use of the 45mm setting on the zoom at F/2.8 is as good as it gets. The use of any other F-stop would begin to diminish the clarity recorded.

You did an excellent capture with superb results !

Best Regards,  Mike

Hi Linda:

This is absolutely stunning. You have preserved the details in the fur as well as the eyes and each complements the other.  I like the crop and position in the frame. Beautiful kitten. I'm curious as to what type of paper you'd use if you were going to make a print?

A really precious capture and image. Those eyes really pop out against the white fur. Beautiful image, Linda. Regards - Lester

Thank you everyone for commenting. I always enjoy hearing your thoughts.

Mike, this was hand held, and the kitten was very active, pouncing and leaping all over the place. I struggle with clarity at the best of times. I have to trust auto focus unless the subject is perfectly still because my eyesight isn’t what it used to be. I wonder if I can get a prescription view finder? I love my Canon 24-70 L 2.8 lens, it is amazing, so versitile, worth every penny.  I don’t always get the clear focus I would like though. I assume that it is me doing something wrong, and it often is.  I am learning by experimenting all the time. I try different shooting modes, TV, AV, ISO. Lately I have been experimenting with bracketing. This is a good way to get at least one good exposure when experimenting even when you aren’t planning HDR work. Thanks for your thoughts.

John, I was thinking about that. I was considering a large canvas wrap, but not sure. The lab I use has a special this month, but this may be too delicate an image for canvas and perhaps I should stick with some nice, soft and velvety art paper. What would you use?

Warmest regards, Linda

Eyes as blue as the Caribbean.  Feline cuteness to the max.  That little pink nose is equally cute.

What a stunning image, Linda!  Those eyes are truly like the "cat's eye" marbles that we played with as kids.  The colors are unbelievable.

Hi Linda:

I'd be tempted to try a metalic paper. There are some with a pearlescent finish which should help with maintaining some softness in the fur. I think the eyes would be absolutely stunning when printed on metalic paper.

Thank you everyone your comments. They are very much appreciated and enjoyed.

John, thanks for the suggestions. I will see if that is possible.

J, I used a polarizing filter that brings out blues. I also did a little dodging and burning to increase the reflecting light effect. I also did a tiny bit of saturation increase because I couldn’t resist, trying not to overdue it. I hope this doesn’t look unnatural. She really has the most beautiful  blue eyes, when the sunlight catches them they are drop dead gorgeous.

Marc, cats are such wonderful creatures to photograph. They are naturally so graceful and elegant, and also challenging because they have their own minds. This is a little girl, she is very dainty and feminine.

William, my husband has never been a big fan of cats either but his heart is starting to melt thanks to this little one’s sweet disposition and affectionate nature.

Good wishes always, Linda
