It’s very hard when you’re in a place like Yosemite, which is full of

ionic scenes, to turn your attention to smaller almost mundane

features of the park. As I walked the shoreline of the Merced River,

which is heavily wooded, my attention started to wander to the forest

around me. I was taken by the moss on the trees, the blanket of pine

needles under my feet, and just how dark it could get. Every once in a

while, an opening appeared ( from a downed tree) , and light streamed

in from river side and spot lighted sections of the forest for me to

study. You’d think that all you had to do is point your camera

anywhere and “snap” a “pic” but it just isn’t so. For one thing, it’s

very dark and where the light streams in is very bright, which is a

bad situation to capture with just one exposure. Another thing, is

that it’s hard to pull a good composition out of all the chaos,

there’s just so much “stuff.”

I think this photograph really gives the “feeling” of the forest and

I wanted to show you what it was like being there. There’s a lot to

see, if you take the time to look, don’t forget to look at the moss on

the trees, that’s one of my favorite things.

As a side note, it was a little past 8:00 AM, and my exposure was 6

seconds at f11.

This shot comes out very cool on Pixel Bender.  Heck of a long exposure but I remember how dark it was in the forest. Gotta say I really like the texture of the tree bark using the PB applications...Lefty

Great capture Leo.  The texture enhances that surreal feeling that is often found deep in the woods.  The mood is there.

Nice work, Leo.  You have a good eye and used it well here.  Really experiencing our parks like Yosemite is in wandering off the iconic lookouts and worn paths and experiencing details.  You've done so, and well.  Perhaps, a question - not a judgment - is whether this is a bit over saturated?  It's your call.  The blue tree trunks and blue log on the ground raise the question for me.  It's a question of how you see and want to portray the image.  Thanks for posting this excellent, non-iconic image.    Regards.    Larry

Thank you Dominick and Larry, I do appreciate your kind words. Larry, I hear you and the point is well taken, but I find with the Pixel Bender filter that extra saturation fitting as it is mimicking an oil painting.
