You have a great range of light values here, and I'm wondering if that's the "bit different" method you refer to.  The long look down the valley and all of the detail along that route are quite nice.

Stephen. I just did a bit of HDR... 

I thought maybe that was it, and I think it was expertly done (i.e., I couldn't tell for sure).

The solid black lower left corner has me a bit puzzled, and I'm assuming that was something that was simply unavoidable.

Stephen. It is a little dark in the left corner and i could lighten a bit. Not black though.. 

This is half dome in Yosemite

Mark, yes, I can see some detail -- I didn't look closely enough.
