Rainier Pre-Sunrise

stp

35mm slide scanned on a Nikon Super Coolscan 9000. Date is approximate. Photo probably made with a Nikon F100 on Velvia. Exposure has been very slightly reduced in the sky and slightly increased in the foreground fog. Colors have not been altered from the transparency.

I'm scanning (and sometimes posting) 35mm slides taken years ago. This

is one, taken in 2004. I was fortunate to have a layer of fog covering the

valley below. The colors are true to the transparency, but I've slightly

darkened the sky and lightened the foreground (equivalent to a digital GND

filter). Comments and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Stephen the tone and colours in this shot are beautiful. I viewed the image small and in large and assumed that it was sea in front with the texture of clouds so I'm glad you explained it was fog. I'm glad you shared this image.........all the best

There was something special about slide film, I miss those days :(

I think the colour contrast between the sky and the mountain gives an apearance of lack of sharpness, or is it just me. I love the composition and the colours are great, texture of the clouds in the foreground and wonderfull interest and put the image in context. I must get around to scanning old slides one day :)

Thanks for the comments.  There aren't many clues for assessing sharpness except that ridge line many miles away.  I look at this on my screen and flip back and forth between sharp and unsharp, and when I do that I can see a subtle difference even in the foreground fog.  From experience, I know it's as sharp as it can and should be.

I've scanned 29 pages of transparencies and have 269 pages to go.  If all goes well, it takes about 2 hours to scan a single page.
