Unfortunately he couldn't hold it back indefinately and we all got

soaked. : - ) The deserted village of Cwm Morthin is a facinating place

to visit, but a difficult location to capture with the appropriate

atmosphere. Your thoughts and comments are always welcome. Thank

You. View it LARGE if you can.

....... the bigger picture seems to give it even more life. The muted sunlight has created some wonderful colours throughout the whole image. The clarity and definition is outstanding, with the pathway (road) taking you further and further into the picture. Love the touch of red.

Well done.

Wonderful shot Alf. That dramatic sky is very intense. Wonderful detail in your foreground and the same continues on through to the horizon line. Your pal seems like an amicable 'bloke'. Very interesting terrain. Thainyou for giving us a little bit of the history behind this shot.

Cheers for now, Gail

You manage a beautiful image here...I like the color, the sharpness, the balance between dark and bright.......best regards........

Alf, this has to be seen larger! The crisp clean detail, the clairity is excellent. It has the same damp, gloomy atmosphere that I have seen in some of your pervious posts, although the addition of a person gives it a warmer, more cheerful feel. The rocky path, the stone buildings look like they were made out of the same rocks as those in the surroundings. I wonder what that gate if for, to keep people or animals in or out? This wonderful, I enjoyed taking my time looking at it, sort of a mini vacation. I feel like was there.  Congratulations on another sensational image.

This shows what the landscape photographers go through to take a good photo, excellent perspective with very dramatic sky,our group lost the last 2 friday evening outings because of the rain, the first time in 4 years.I must say the large view is fantastic, the quality of detail is incredible, keep the good work coming, best regards,PS may be we have to start considering wetsuits,Harry

Alf...  The detail is amazing, the composition is outstanding with the rough, stone road leading us well through the image and establishing superb depth.   But take a look at the standing water, minute little piece of horizon and the stonework in the houses.  All seem to indicate the image is canted slightly to the right.  I know, it's a curse, but horizons speak to me.  Regardless of my affliction, a fantastic image... I am always thrilled when a photographer can do the most of every opportunity. Colours and detail are just so good here as is the light. Very well done, Alf! Kind regards.

Sincere thanks for your in depth and very complimentry feedback, much appreciated!  I uploaded the image with all details optimised for the larger view, and kind of hoped it would have the depth that you mentioned. The colours did change by the minute as the sun shone on different aspects of the scene through the gaps in the clouds.

Many thanks for your very uplifting and enthusiastic response, much appreciated! I can't pretend that its a portrait as such, more an incidental image of a man and a gate : - ) But I'm glad that the moody atmosphere was conveyed successfully.

Cheers Pierre!

GAIL

Sincere Thanks for your interest and continued encouragement, it really is appreciated. He is an amicable bloke : - ) he's also very knowleagable .....I'm hoping some of it will eventually rub off on me! The history behind the scene is fascinating, the secong structure you can see along  the path with the tree to the left, was the church, interestingly it is the only structure in the deserted village with a rendered finish to the slate construction, the original timbers lay within the ruin ..... a reminder of a not so distant past, and the hardships that people faced on a daily basis.

Cheers Gail and Take Care!

Many thanks for your positive feeedback and observations, much appreciated. The original image had some heavy shadow in the mountain areas to left and right, I used 3 layers of different exposures plus about 10% HDR in order to obtain the detail in these areas

LINDA

Sincere thanks for your interest and positive critique, much appreciated! The damp gloomy atmosphere is the epitomy and very essence of this place, even on a bright sunny day it can sometimes still look grey and sombre, such is the nature of the terrain and slate that was at the epicentre of existence for the people that toiled and lived here. Yes you are very observant the path is made of slate, as was most things, fences and gateposts included in some parts.  The gate in this shot is relatively new in structure, and is designed to keep the sheep enclosed, the semi-circle opening to the left allowing a single person to pass without having to open the large gate, and without risking any sheep wandering to other pastures. I'm glad you enjoyed your "mini vacation" Linda, all that from your chair and not a sign of any sun cream : - )

Cheers Linda!

DROR

I don't think the thumbnail I sent was optimised for the size, and I think that can make a huge difference. Well I can't speak for King Kenny either ....but I'm willing to bet you'll make it 1: - 1. before very long : - )

Cheers Mate!

HARRY

Many Thanks for your interest and positive feedback, much appreciated! The weather is a continual topic of converstion in the UK and thats mostly due to its unpredictable nature and the typically unseasonal twists and turns to the weather patterns. Its a great shame your group missed out on two succesive Friday evenings, its a real indication of the "summer" thus far. Wetsuits are beginning to sound like a viable idea, they would compliment my already swiftly evolving webbed feet : - ) I'm really pleased you liked this one.

Cheers Harry!

MIKE

Many thanks for your posiitve feedback and kind comments. Yeah as soon as you mentioned it I thought "damm! I forgot to straighten it" One of them things I leave to the last because of layering .....well thats my excuse : - ) I'm very flattered nonetheless that you like it.

Cheers Mike!

Sincere thanks for your interest and encouraging comments, much appreciated! There is a photograph opportunity in most situations, and sometimes the worse the situation, the better the photograph, the hard part is finding it.    : - )

Every element in this photograph worked very well. The mood brought about by the cloudy atmosphere, to road leading the viewer deep into the photo, the good foreground including the portrait. I may want to give significance to the fence showing it closed to tell everybody that there is no need going further since it is a deserted village. Beautifully created and well presented.

Regards, Alf.

Wow. I really like this image for many reasons. The clarity and sharpness are just amazing along with the mid tone contrast. Technically is just great. Needless to say the content and the arrangement of the element on the frame a very well done.

Congrats on this terrific image.

Alf,

Amazing image with excellent colors & details.  I think this one would make a great book cover.  That beautiful sky just adds drama to the scene.  Thanks for sharing.  Take care, Patsy

Alf, a really nice image. I like the detail of the gate and the figure in the foreground. I especially like the natural color throughout and the feel of the light definitely says stormy weather.

One thing i recently realized is that you can level your raw in acr , without any fear of losing the chance for coming back to source image and reprocess it for some regional tunes, but certainly you lose the chance for placing other raws of the same series shots ( ie. bracketed shots ); and i usually forget leveling too! But, i think this capture is leveled, without any shift in horizon. Also amazed by subtle use of HDR here, only visible ( and so delightful and nice ) in f/g curved red bars. Congratulations for this masterful study of tones, light and details.
