However, the use of too much sharpening also brings up the noise level seen in the image.

I have applied a mild noise reduction to your image (it would be better, but there were no details furnished along with your image) .

You are absolutely right. Sometimes the post-processing makes it difficult to determine the best way to correct the photo. Certain programs have better capabilities of correcting the produced noise.

Your version certainly has done good to the picture. I try to include one with Aperture where the result was better thanks to your advice. br Hannu

Great photo, love the shallow depth of field and neutral background. A white legged Damselfly I believe. Top job.
