vlad po... 1 Posted March 6, 2003 I know Mr. Poplar for several years. When I visit this lake I used to greet him, listen his short stories. So, we are good friends. Your comments, suggestions, ratings are greatly appreciated. Link to comment
nickolay_lavrik 0 Posted March 6, 2003 Vlad, I think the composition and cropping are very good. The shapes of shades are very colorful. The photo creates quite distinctive mood. Thinking of possible suggestions... getting more detail in snow - technically challenging but could lead to even a stronger image. Link to comment
jud 0 Posted March 7, 2003 Vlad-- Nice shot. I'd agree with the above comments about the mood and composition. Great use of the cool colors with just enough brown to bring some life to the shot. Regards, Jud Link to comment
wenger 0 Posted March 8, 2003 I like that your shoulders are at the edge of the lake. Maybe if they followed the edge a little more closely, but that's just being picky. Nice image. Link to comment
vlad po... 1 Posted March 8, 2003 Thanks everybody for comments, suggestions and ratings. Thomas, it was so cold, that I really didn't think about my pose, so shoulders followed shoreline just by chance. Nickolay, I agree about getting more details in snow and shadows as well. To get this I was considering from the very begining B&W or warmer color versions, but have decided against it. Maybe was wrong. I'm attaching both versions, so if you have a chance to stop by, or anybody else, all are welcome to look and say what do you think. Thanks. Link to comment
dspoels 0 Posted March 10, 2003 Vlad, I think your attitude towards this photo is almost as enjoyable as the photo itself. I looked at the B&W that you made and I miss the tones of the color, but it makes the showing ground less distracting. I wonder if it would help this photo to have full snow coverage, or if it would take out interest. Really nice shot-how did you get the tree to appear so short? Is it a short tree, or were you standing in front of it? Link to comment
vlad po... 1 Posted March 10, 2003 Dawn, thanks for your commenting. I was considering both 'blue' and B&W versions from the very beginning, I like them both. Actually, B&W has better details in shadows. Nevertheless, I've decided in favour of the 'blue', because I feeled it was expressing the mood much better. I have no idea how tall was the tree, say average. It was morning, not that early, something around 9-9:30 AM, shadows were still long enough, so there was no problem to capture a whole tree on a snow covering the lake. I was standing aside. endre halász 0 Posted March 26, 2003 The photo is not bad - but it is the caption that makes this alive. Great! Link to comment
dkatz02 0 Posted October 8, 2003 I like this because the image is stretched by the low angle of the sun - this image tells a story Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted March 1, 2004 Wonderfully creative and just a nice piece of work. One of my favorites by far. I may just have to use this idea sometime in the future. Link to comment
