Hi David:

You have certainly captured a longing look in Valen's eyes. Your caption is very appropriate.  Great DOF and a nice simple background really help us focus on Valen's expression.

David,

I like the fact that your focus is where it needs to be. You used the appropriate f-stop with your zoom lens.

Very nice image.

Best Regards,  Mike

Thanks John, Pierre, and Mike. This was taken this past winter, we are lucky to get one or two snowfalls a year. Valen is one happy camper when it does snow, it like something in her blood tells her this is a good thing. I have had several different breeds of dogs in my day some were OK with snow... some didn't care for it much, but every Rottie I have had loved the snow.

Thanks again guys for the kind words.

Dogs and snow...always a winning combination.

Valen is gorgeous, so beautiful...so true to type it's almost scary.  The square crop is perfect...glad to see you using it.  Beautiful colour work and perfect d.o.f.

I know what you mean about the scarcity of snow.  We had a couple of fairly large ones here this past winter, but the temperatures are predicted to go over 100 in the coming week.  We all hate it.

What a dog!

Jim this is sort-of a bitter sweet photo for me. Valen is showing her age, with the white hairs on her chin and muzzle, she is eight years old. I know time is not a Rottweilers friend after about eight.

But I agree totally... she is gorgeous... and if she could understand me (and I think she did) you made her blush.

Yea the heat is bad... we hate it too.

David...  You know me and dogs, you can't have a bad picture of one!  But this shot is particularly well done with a perfect expression.  Inquisitive and teasing is what I see here.

Now this comment will only work until you post another image, but if you look at your PN homepage right now you will see a very humorous triad of photos.  You have Valen in the middle with her very teasing and perhaps accusing look with a slinky model on either side.  Maybe it's just late, but I found that hilarious.  Have a great weekend... Mike

I had not noticed that Mike. But now that you point it out... it made me smile ear to ear. Have a great 4th of July weekend Mike.

David, although you didn't ask, my thinking on Valen's age is this.  At eight years of age, she is only about a year or so past her real prime.  Unless she develops some sort of serious health issue, you should have several more years of life with your best friend.

Do not dwell on her age.  Enjoy and be grateful for each day she is with you.  Each photograph you make of her will be another word in the poem that is Valen's life.

I compliment you again on an excellent photograph of her.

Yea Jim I get caught up in the glass is half empty... way too much. Thanks for reminding me... it can be half full.

Bronx lived 14 good years and if I remember correctly Chief was almost 12 years old... but they are the exception not the rule (half empty again... damn it) so if we go buy Bronx and Chief, Valen is got about 5 good years left and that would be great. :)

Thanks Jim for your thoughts about Valen.
