wenger 0 Posted March 5, 2003 I couldn't resist going out to play in the snow. Some would make a snowman, I made this. Link to comment
dave_nitsche 0 Posted March 5, 2003 Thomas, I have tried to make shots like this with absolutely no luck. It is all in the subject. I have never stumbled across one that fit this style. You certainly have. This is a great image. I have really enjoyed viewing it... Link to comment
edlark 0 Posted March 5, 2003 The concept is good, but this execution simply looks over exposed to me. Sorry. Link to comment
wenger 0 Posted March 6, 2003 Well for those who don't think there is enough contrast I've attached a reworked image. I went back into the darkroom and threw on a high contrast filter and gave it a long exposure. Personally, I like the first one. I think it has mystery, and more fully represents the strength of the storm. If you look at the large version you can see all of the snowflakes that are "blurring" the image. I'd be intersted in hearing which image others like. (The new one also is slightly re-composed) Link to comment
jack_lo_..._t_o 0 Posted March 6, 2003 Nice image. Maybe a bit higher contrast; it would still look like a sketch. Link to comment
abintraphoto 0 Posted March 12, 2003 Well composed and to me, the 'faintness' of it makes it unique ................ the high contrast version looks very good also ............... Link to comment
seven 0 Posted March 16, 2003 I enjoy the subtlety in this, very much like a sketch as someone has suggested. I was to advise burning the darker subject matter - but having viewed your alternative, not sure (though in that you appear to work the whole image rather than its parts.)I like the starkness; I feel that a colour image of this would feel cold whereas here one merely appreciates the simplicity of the lines. I think it would be aesthetically excellent were the fence to run the whole length of the frame, filling in the empty space between tree and left border.Sometimes with such images - the rule book has to be ignored for it to be different. With no texture in the whites one concentrates easily on the whole without endeavouring to divide it into parts and assess each on its merits or otherwise. Fine work Tom. Link to comment
blago 0 Posted March 17, 2003 It is so delicate. Somehow I am between two versions. Here's one more - adding black to neutrals and cropping a little. Blago Link to comment
mg 0 Posted March 22, 2003 Very nice image. Too bad we look at it on a monitor - it sure would be better as a fiber print. I wonder wher going just a tad darker with the greys wouldn't be better for internet purpose... Composition is perfect to me. Well done. Regards. Link to comment
monique_sieber 0 Posted March 22, 2003 that is way too light. I would like it better if the tree was a tiny bit darker. Link to comment
wenger 0 Posted May 22, 2003 Thanks to those who have commented. Yes, it is light, and delicate. Those who think it's far too light may be looking at it on the wrong monitor. It really makes a difference with this one. Thanks again. Link to comment

stp 6 Posted December 4, 2003 Thomas, both are two different images, and both are great. I grew up in eastern Montana, and I know the reality of the lighter version, which is also the one I prefer. Great work. Link to comment
