Lake Mattamuskeet

Only minor tweaks in PS. Otherwise you what you see is what I saw. It was a hazy, slightly foggy morning. Worth getting up a 2am and driving 3 hours for?

This is very nice. Almost surrealistic. Too bad the water wasn't more calm. I think that I would have brought the horizon line down to the base of the trees in the middle.

Wow, this is a really cool shot. If I were to tinker with it, I'd try PhotoShop diffused glow and grain. Nonetheless, it is nice the way it is.

You're funny Regina. This is an absolutely fantastic image. The composition is very nice, drawn in thirds by the horizontal upper branch, the vertical trees, and the skewed foreground reflections at an angle that beckon the viewer to linger on this surrealistic and almost monochromatic scene. Wonderful!

Well worth it! This is a great image-- moody, dark and surreal. Well composed, and I think I prefer the slight ripples in the water... They add to the unreality of the scene. Nice shot overall. Regards, Jud

Fantastic atmosphere! I really like this one, Regina. My only quibble is that the horizon doesn't seem quite level- perhaps rotating slightly counter-clockwise would help (there is a chance, of course, that it's my head that is slightly crooked. =) )

Very nice. . . The horizontal branch without a base is risky but your careful placement makes it clearly intentional. If you're inclined to straighten the horizon, then consider skewing the trees to the right just a bit. The ripples are nice, but the lower left seems a bit dark and heavy. Maybe crop a bit off the bottom. Still . . . . very nice as is.

The comments on this image were well worth reading. I live in Florida, and have taken lots of cypress pictures, but not like this. This picture is distinguished from Clide Butchers work. To me, it explores new ground, in that there is no ground, the water and sky merge in almost seamless fashon. Simplistic in color and form. I think this image should set a style for a series of pictures.

So wonderful that I just have to break my rule about not rating other Circle members. There is, by the way, no visible horizon in this picture that can be straightened. There is a shoreline, and shorelines often make a non-horizontal line in a picture.

This is beautiful...very eye catching Regina. However, there is a very noticable tilt in my opinion. Besides the horizon, the entire water line appears as if it wants to drain to the right. Sitting water is always level. This is easily corrected in Photoshop, with room to spare after cropping. I would know, horizons have abeen a problem in the past for me. Otherwise this is outstanding!

Yes Bente, my second trip in as many weeks in an attempt to catch pictures of migratory snow geese and tundra swans. The birds were very camara shy, but lovely scenery nonetheless. I did get to see deer, rabbits, fox, terapins, loons, herons, vultures, and red tailed hawks. As I said... I got to SEE them... no decent shots. Still have some film being processed so maybe one or two will turn out ok. I also got to go canoeing for the first time in many years so it was a great time all around. Damn I'm tired though! lol

Thanks so much EVERYONE for the great feedback and ratings on this one. I felt it was special the moment I snapped it. Incredible light and foggy conditions make for great photos. Even for an amateur like me.

PS...There are two other similar shots in the folder taken at the same time and area, but I like this one the best. Thanks again.

Get ready for it. I see 28 ratings in only its second day of posting. You're on your way!

I think if it's not tilted, it looks tilted which is the same thing. The trees appear vertical but the water and the ripples appear off kilter. Whatever, it's gorgeous and again shows your remarkable ability to see the light. THIS is pure chiaroscuro if anyone cares to see an example. Congratulation ahead of time for POW.

Oh NO Fred... don't go there!

Guess that tilt is just me... I have always been a bit off kilter anyway. LOL

I believe it may have that look because I was standing off shore on a short boat pier looking back and at a funny angle. It seems to be easily corrected as in Vince's post (thank you by the way Vince.)

I felt like it might come out good, but am a bit surprised (pleasantly so) at such a large number of responses. Thanks again all.

This is an awesome picture! It draws your eye right to the center and you can just make out the shoreline in the distance through the fog (at least I think it is the shoreline).

As others have said, a great picture. I like the B/W feel of it, with just the hint of color.

I like it better in the original form and not the rotated one -- on the rotated one I seem to see the picture form a point on the right hand side. or is it just my eyes.

GREAT shot/great conception
