jerrymat 5 Posted February 27, 2003 Indeed both graceful and colorful! I like the sinuous shape of the stem; my tulips always seem to have straight stems. I'd be interested in knowing the type of light source you used. Link to comment
david_kelly9 0 Posted February 27, 2003 Jerry, The light source was my favorite - natural light from a southern exposure window. David Link to comment
victor_zamanski 0 Posted March 3, 2003 Beautiful picture; may be I'd cut a little bit of the black background at the right.Personally I think of tulips as mainly B&W objects. Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted March 4, 2003 Tulips seem to convey a personality that other flowers don't have. This one looks shy and elegant. I think this is a good light source and how I've shot all of mine. And the black background is always complementary. Link to comment

twmeyer 0 Posted March 16, 2003 the colors and their volume seem precariously balanced. The red is too heavy... carries too much compositional weight and since it's volume is so large, the composition seems top heavy. More negative space under the leaves would give the green leaves more "weight" to counterbalance the red globe and also let it (the red) come further into the frame. The red could still retain it's good placement in the frame (and aspect ratio) that you have selected. Alternately, consider coming in real tight, and make the echoing patterns (curling leaf and round blossum shape) a more prominent dialog in the whole image, with the edge of your frame acting as an compositional player rather than outlining a passive field. Perhaps this horizontal format also helps in stabilizing the image's balance issues... t Link to comment
david_kelly9 0 Posted March 18, 2003 Tom - Thank you for the time to comment. To tell you the truth when I began posting on this site, this is the sort of critique that I thought I would receive. I am looking for thoughtful insight into how I can make my product better. You are the first to be so kind. I like what you have done to the image and I thank you again for your help.
