alfbailey 1 Posted May 30, 2011 He didn't move, not once......he stood resolute ...watching my every action, his form shimmered in the last light of the sun and he seemed almost transparent.......he didn't move.......he just observed. You might not be able to see the alien on this size image........but he is there ...honest! Your thoughts and comments are always appreciated. Thank You! Link to comment

Not Here 93 Posted June 1, 2011 Alf... All three shots are excellent and have their own personalities. I think the cooperation and posing of the "alien" pushes this one over the line to make it my favorite of the three. My, my, what a fine lens you have there ;-)... Mike Link to comment
bob_belanger 1 Posted June 1, 2011 It's beautiful. I did a backlit lighthouse last summer. I like the idea and I may try it again. You got the right light on yours, it's beautiful and the long shadows create wonderful leading lines that form a very cool triangle. Link to comment

blue-olympus 0 Posted June 2, 2011 Your usual "high quality shot" Alf. This is so effective how you have composed this with the Lighthouse directly backlit....beautiful and impressive work...Regards Link to comment
alfbailey 1 Posted June 2, 2011 PATSY Thank you so much! I'm really pleased you liked it. Hiding the sun behind an object is a good way of avoiding burnt out highlights and makes for a dramatic image ..........well sometimes : - )Cheers Patsy!AlfRAMESH Many Thanks for your interest and kind words, much appreciated.Best RegardsAlfRUUDThank You! I'm really pleased you liked it, much appreciated.Best WishesAlfGRANTSincere Thanks for your thoughts and interest, much appreciated! The sunset was already looking impressive, but I altered the white balance slightly to add even more warmth to the image. I was quite pleased with the result too.Cheers!AlfRAYMany Thanks for your interest and posiitve feedback. I did a similar thing with a wind turbine a couple of years ago and thought I'd try it again, I think it worked better than the first time.Best RegardsAlfNIKIThank you for sharing your thoughts, much appreciated!Kind RegardsAlfBOBBYI hope you are keeping well. Sincere thanks for your feedback, much appreciated.Best RegardsAlfNONCHO Many Thanks for your interest and feedback, I'm really pleased you liked it.Best RegardsAlfMIKEI have to confess, that despite his none communication and continued silence, the Alien influenced me in my choice of this being my personal favourite from the three.......I think he must have sent me a telepathetic message : - ) (and Yes that spelling was deliberate)As for the lens........Its brilliant........but then so was the work I witnessed that influenced me to buy it..........can't think who's it was now : - )Sincere Thanks Mike!AlfBOBI first tried this type of composition a couple of years ago when photographing a wind turbine in the snow, it worked, but a similar situation hadn't occurred until this one presented itself. I think the sun has to be low enough that the highlights are not burned out at the sides of the structure, worth taking a few exposures at different levels to make sure.Sincere thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback Bob, Much appreciated.Best RegardsAlfMAURIZIOThank You! I'm really pleased you liked this one!Best WishesAlfJAMIE Sincere thanks for your concise, but thoroughly positive feedback, much appreciated.Best RegardsAlfCOSMINSincere thanks, I am very flattered that you consider this a favourite, and I really appreciate your feedback.Cheers!AlfALBERTOThank you very much for your kind comments.Best RegardsAlfKEITH Thank You! I tried this a couple of years ago with a wind turbine and it seemed to work, and it does diffuse the harshest light of the sun, whilst at the same time creating interesting shadows, so I tried it again. I'm really pleased you liked the result.Cheers mateAlf Link to comment
daveinwilton 0 Posted June 3, 2011 Alf, you seem to be drawn to Talacre lighthouse at least as much as I am drawn to Point Arena. A wondrous image you have achieved here, and magical with the "Visitor". The light balance is great, still managing to get light onto the lee of the structure. The clouds are a fine bonus. Keep up the great work; best regards...-Dave Link to comment

tonyfrench 0 Posted June 3, 2011 Alf, WHile all three of these are great, the figure adds something special to this. Also the way the light radiates behind the tower, the details of the peeling paint and and the long triangular shape of the shadow are all elements that make it my favorite of the three. hstelljes 41 Posted June 3, 2011 Hi Alf. A great shot, I love the shadows cast by the lighthouse and the overall warm color. Just a great scene. Your lighthouses are all terrific. Take care.BR,Holger Link to comment
3m 0 Posted June 4, 2011 I very much like this capture as well, Alf. The way you composed this, with the large triangular shadow in front of the lighthouse and the beautiful sunset beyond, is spectacular indeed! Link to comment
alfbailey 1 Posted June 4, 2011 DAVE You are so right! it is one of my favourite locations, there doesn't appear to be many lighthouses that are right on the beach and that are so approachable, my other favourite is Fort Perch Rock Lighthouse located further into the Mersey Estuary. But lighthouses are so magnetic visually, and they stand for everything that is good and strong in the face of every element and adversity. The alien seemed to share this view also : - ) Sincere thanks for your thoughtful contribution and positive feedback Dave.Best RegardsAlfSARAHMany Thanks for your vote of confidence, very much appreciated!Best RegardsAlfTONY I have to admit this is my favourite also, for me the light and colour makes it border on the surreal and the "Alien" element contrives to make it more so. Sincere thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback Tony, much appreciated!CheersAlfHOLGER I know lighthouses are a favourite subject of yours so it makes it very gratifying to know you like them. Many Thanks for your positive feedback Holger, much appreciated.Best RegardsAlfMARJOLEINSincere thanks for your interest and positive feedback. This particular location is photographed all the time, so I wanted to try and get something slightly different from the session. I had tried a similar excercise with a wind turbine a couple of years ago and it seemed quite effective and so tried it again here , the "alien" was an added bonus : - )Cheers Marjolein!Alf Link to comment
Alex 0 Posted June 5, 2011 Wow. I looked at all of ones you uploaded and I must say everyone is fantastic. Somehow this one caught my eye the most I guess because of the choice of point of view and focal length, it makes the observatory stand more majestic and proud.Great image indeed.CongratsAlex Link to comment
