tcairns 0 Posted February 25, 2003 I like the colorful pools of sunlight - nice photo. As for the mat, it would look great in a frame, but I prefer unmatted photos on line. Nice job. Link to comment
edlark 0 Posted March 29, 2003 The frame is distracting for me as well. I think it actually hurts this photo. Lots of great textures that kind of get distracted by the color in the photo - would work best as a black and white, I think. Link to comment
edlark 0 Posted March 29, 2003 I took the liberty - I hope you're not offended. A color conversion via PS7's channel mixer, a little burning in of the trail, some unsharp mask and a general levels adjustment. If you wish me to remove the example, I will, of course, oblige. Link to comment
paul_ensom 0 Posted March 29, 2003 I will definitely experiment with that. Always feel free to play around with my images... I'm honored that you took the time. Link to comment
uwestiens 0 Posted April 21, 2003 For me the frame is ok, but maybe in a different colour like dark brown would be better. I think the photo is living from its colour contrasts. You can't see the path in the black and white version, so I like yours a lot more. Nice shot. Link to comment
dominiquedodge 0 Posted April 21, 2003 Nice woodland scene. I see no reason to convert to B&W, although it's still very good. I think the colour version needs its contrast and/or sharpening "perked up" a wee bit. Did you do any adjustments? I really like the dappled shade and spots of sun. Very nice. (Yes the green border detracts from the splendid photo because it's too light IMO). Link to comment
paul_ensom 0 Posted April 21, 2003 Thanks guys... You're absolutely right about the matte. I couldn't quite put my finger on what was wrong with it. I've also given the contrast a considerable "perking". Thanks again for your time Link to comment
stefanovandelli 0 Posted April 28, 2003 Well taken but too much CCD noise. I'd go back with a film camera and some slide film. Cheers, SV Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted June 10, 2003 Maybe Stefano is right but I am not entirely sure how you can tell from such a reduced size upload. (jpg compression and all) I am commenting on this photo as it is one that stands out in the folder. What I like is that you have put some photos in the folder that you yourself must think are bad. This tends to suggest you are looking for people who can rate your work honestly. (A clever ploy if you ask me!) Go back with a film camera! I don't know. Your mood and the feeling the scene inspires in you will not be the same. Sure! If you had a film camera with you it would have been handy to shoot it too. Having said that. The majority of 'scanned from photo' uploads are not good. I don't mean the photos are bad! I mean the scans are bad. Good shot. The great thing about digital is it gives you the chance to see the results of your efforts immediately. When I was younger, I often used to look at photos and wonder how the professionals got such good photos. I realise now that a lot if it has to do with the ability to get instant results. (Polaroid backs for medium format cameras) They also had the budget to take 100s of photos and select only 1. Digital allows the likes of you and me to do this. It is a great way to learn. Nice photo! Link to comment
