Yesterday Bicycled to Le Pain Quotidien of Beverly Hills to have a cup of aromatic Latte with milk (hint at one of the better coffee places in BH). In my shoulder pouch was my baby Kodak Z981 (which, with its 26-676 Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon zoom is possibly the most portable quality full hand grip toy and a minor value miracle).

Spotting an intriguing father-daughter duo at one end of the portico, I positioned myself as far away as possible hoping to test out my new camera with challenging hand held ~ 500mm optical magnification (image stabilized) spontaneous in shade portrait shots.

Cropped. No digital alterations.

First shot: Intimacy                                Second shot: Writer’s Block

Kind impressions are welcome.

Greetings Pierre! Thank you for noticing my cautious entry into the world of Critical Photography. Come to think of it, there really was something sad about the way this girl kept opening and closing her lap top appearing to be thinking of something to write down yet not quite finding the expression for it. Neither her dad, nor tea and mineral water seemed to help. I recalled my first laptop which made me feel like A. Dumas in the making, just to find that the writer’s muse can be an evanescent mistress. Do appreciate my first unqualified compliment. Regards. P.S. (Oh, just recalled, that mustache sporting hermaphroditic ape of yours is phenomenal!)  ILM

A beautiful little girl and she really seems to be caught in her own thoughts.  Well captured.

Kind regards,

Engela

Igor...  I love the storyline and the candid nature of this shot.  I think I would have noticed the slight look of frustration on her face without the story, but with the story it is even more evident.  Our love affair with gadgets, computers, phones, and yes, even cameras lead us to believe that we must continually "mess" with them and force them to produce, even when we have little to share ourselves.  The elegant silver teapot and the durable, worn table have more of a life lesson for her and for us.  Now that I have horribly over analyzed this fine candid, I will retire for the evening.  Have a great weekend... Mike
