More macro. This one was a tough photo for me. At first I didn't like that the

beetles head was out of focus but then I felt like it was ok because really

what drew me to this particular insect was the interesting pattern on his

shell and the details there. What do you think?

I like the focus emphasis on the painted shell of this beetle. The background is excellent. There is an interesting pattern on the back of the head, too.

A slightly elevated angle would have provided better focus on the entire backside of the beetle. Perhaps a higher ISO setting would have allowed for improved sharpness because 1/160 second at F/11 is cutting it close to keeping very small moments of camera or insect to reduce the definition.

IMHO I think I would like to have seen the head in focus.  Obviously it would have been tough with this guy though.  I got a very similar image in Arizona, same effect (sharp shell, out of focus head) so I can't be too critical.
