Bożena,

You have focused very well on the beautiful young girl and the fire hydrant. The background is nicely out of focus. The simplicity, good composition and excellent contrast add to the photograph's charm -- as does the girl's outfit and the tone of the image which makes it seem like an early 1900s image. The way the girl is giving so much attention to the fire hydrant really adds interest to the photograph.

It is too bad that you have overdone the burning-in of the edges. Darkening the edges helps to keep the viewer's eyes within the photograph which is a very good thing to do. You do not want to make it obvious that you have darkened the edges of a portrait. You want to have a very subtle gradation of tone going to the edges. The process shouldn't draw attention to itself.

Nice shot,

Mark

Like other snaps you have done another excellent job. Every activity in the streets captured by you takes the viewer to the site and Envirofacts. You stopped great events in the shape of photographs. talking this image the texture , color, composition & work done (postproductions) is great.

Being a son of a metallurgist, am naturally compelled to admire the ornament of this sepia captured hydrant tower. Speaks well of the city, as most I lived in had no where nearly so elaborate pouring/casting designs for what was perceived as mere utilities. As a grandson of a photographer, can not resist but note the wonderful retro quality of the girl's garments, particularly the frets. The perspective narrowing of the stone work and the darkening of corners serve well to center the attention to the faces -- the child's and the water-dispensing ichthyo-monster's. As a philosopher-educator, see the image as a powerful encapsulation of a 'thirst for knowledge', for the grasping hands speak to me of a purposeful quest for discernment in figuring out how things work. Perhaps I am making more of it than you intended, but the image moved me. Love it! Seriousness on her face is priceless. 7+
