So this is a cliche shot I know, but my recent trip to Yosemite was nothing more than a trophy collecting effort. The previous four trips to Yosemite Valley have yielded few good images because of circumstances and timing. This time I was going to focus on the "biggies", despite my inner photographic inclinations. I intentionally sought the "bread and butter" shots on this trip, but hoped I could put at least a little spin on some of them. While I'm not a macro shooter and I don't delve too much into "intimates", these dogwoods against a flowing backdrop have always commanded my attention. William Neill immediately comes to mind because he has presented so many of these, and so well. Copying is just another way of learning. On this morning, the conditions were ripe, with soft light and minimal breeze coaxing me. I wasn't going to exit the valley without one of my own. Thanks for your comments and please enjoy the Larger preview!

Mark...  I think this is called a trifecta.  The wild water is in gorgeous disharmony with the frozen and intricate branches... great stuff... Mike

Softness and motion blur of the water make it so special! Not softness regarding sharpness, contrast! Nice mild colors, most attractive spectacle!

Best regards Mark!

Mark, of the three images of Yosemite NP you have uploaded, this image is my favorite. Composition, exposure and the soft colors make this image a very special one with aesthetic appeal.I would like to rate this image with magnificent 7.

These Dogwoods against the rushing water are very captivating and your processing just couldn't be better. I kept looking for some Dogwoods to photograph but I only found some partially open ones. Were you there at the same time we were or a little later?

Thanks Leo! I went on May 14th and was there for only about 5 hours. I left Bakersfield at 1 am in the morn and was back by 2 pm. I think you guys were there a week or so earlier and the blooms hadn't opened. My guess is they are peaking now, I was probably a few days early, although the day after I was there, they had a heavy snow. I really wish I could go back; the clouds have been great the last few days here!

Yes, a classic, but not a classic that I have been able to capture, yet, on my Yosemite trips. The open shade type light and the rushing water combined with the sharp focus, well it all just comes together. By the way, I am back in pn and hope to have some new contributions up soon. Regards.
