I bumped into a herd of Mule Deer yesterday. This one was very focused on grazing. When she noticed me with my camera pointed at her, she looked  shocked and surprized, her mouth seemed to drop open. She may have been making a warning cry to the other herd members. I don't know enough about Mule Deer behaivior to say. If anyone knows, I would be interested in learning. Thanks.

It seems to be in alert position, look the rising ears, the photo is a document of this rapid

reaction

Thanks Ronald. You are probably right. They all have their giant ears up like this; better to hear hunters and photographers with. This isn't the best image as far as clairity goes, I often get so excited about seeing wildlife I forget to stay calm and take my time focusing properly. But, sometimes you just have to shoot because they dissappear in a flash.  I thought the wide open mouth was interesting, I have never seen a deer do this before. I know that if one moves they all move. I don't know if they make sounds to warn each other on not. Do they make a sound when startled?  After I took this shot she was leaping away into the forest with other members of her herd. I'll have to do some research.

Thanks again and best wishes,

Linda

Thanks, it is nice to hear from you. This wasn't quite the wilderness, just the edge. I shot this in a feild where she was grazing,  she fled into the forest.

She looks as surprised as you probably did.  If only deer could utilize cameras.  The sights they could capture.

A very quick and candid capture, surprsing for you both I am sure. Well done considering just how quickly you made this capture.  Most sincerely, Gail

I was trying out my new telephoto lens. I am not used to it yet and it is heavy.  My camera was on fast continuous and this was at the first of a burst. This was just one of those lucky captures. Hopefully I will learn how to use it and become more polished in the future.  It is nice to hear your thoughts. Best wishes, Linda
