dom1 1 Posted May 2, 2011 This was captured in the late afternoon, with the sun low, on the edge of a gulch in the Haleakala National Park. Link to comment
oliver treptor 0 Posted May 2, 2011 i think it would be better cropped tighter, showing less of the shrub and more of the bird. i guess the bushes where nice also..still a good photograph.keep shootin'ot Link to comment
dom1 1 Posted May 2, 2011 Thanks Guys. Oliver, the bush was a tough call for me too. In the end I kept it because the red berries added color to the image. Link to comment
randallfarhy 0 Posted May 3, 2011 Nice capture Dominick-nicely exposed, especially considering the sidelit nature. Great background separation too. Perhaps a bit too much distraction to the right and bottom, personal preference. Hope that you don't mind I cropped it, not something I normally do but would have been difficult to describe. Image removed from computer upon posting. Cropped image is both property of and copyright Dominick Marino. Regards, Randall Link to comment
steveshinn 0 Posted May 20, 2011 A beautiful shot Dominick. I too thought of a crop but decided that the arch in the foliage should not be lost. I like the original shot best. Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted May 29, 2011 Very good image. I am attracted to both the bird and the curved branch with the red berries. The loss of highlights on the bird and the leafs are a minor distraction for me. Judging from the angle of light, you might have obtained maximum benefit from a circular polarizer. hope this was helpful! Link to comment
dom1 1 Posted May 30, 2011 Good eye Tony. This was a high contrast shot that required some PS work to mute the highlights. I am on a different computer, away from home base, and it's quite interesting to see how my photos come across on a non optimized monitor. Aloha! Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted May 31, 2011 Circular polarizers reduce those highlights and they are most effective when the light is 90 degrees to where you are pointing the camera which is probably the case here. there is a trade-off, polarizers reduce the light and that can be a bother at times. All the best and thanks for your recent visit! PS The colorful tulip you visited benefited from a polarizer with similar light. Hope you found this helpful. Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted June 4, 2011 Dominick... With wildlife sometimes we just have to take what's offered and while the highlights are there; I'm sure they are very common, even to the human eye, in the bright Hawaii sun. Regardless, a well captured bird... Mike Link to comment
