What an interesting angle! A great action shot with the blurred wing creating the motion. Crisp, clear and colourful. Well done.

Your tight crop could have included the wing tip...... just a minor nitpik.

Nice image, BUT why F/8 ??? Some clarity is lost due to F/8 and the motion/shutter speed.

A higher ISO would is recommended if your lens is slower.

Using a 400mm lens does not require stopping down for depth of focus. I am certain that the working distance was not that close.

Did the crop cut off the wing tip or was part of the wing out of the field of view ?

Mark I shoot mostly at ISO-400 and should have this time.  I was in P (program mode) so the shutter and aperture were chosen by the camera.

 

The crop did not cut off the wingtip.  Edge of the sensor did that. The crop did cut out the feet of the seagull which was mobbing the hawk.

 

Small uncropped version uploaded to show the FF.

 

By the way, the blurred wingtips don't bother me since the head is relatively sharp.
