Great shot, John, and the composition is perfect.  I wonder if you've considered reducing some of the blown highlights on the Barn?

By the way, where is this scene?  I'm kind of jealous that you beat me to this one... ;-)

Thanks, William!  When I posted the picture I just couldn't remember exactly where this shot was taken...except that it was just over the NC line from TN. Then, I got to thinking...and realized that it was actually taken near Seveirville, Tn. on state Hwy 411 headed toward Newport.(not so far from NC, but not quite there).  So I get to re-title the picture!  lol     As for the blown highlights on the barn...I actually processed this one for a canvas print...and highlight detail would be lost anyway.  If printed on paper, you're absolutely correct that it needs some correction. Sorry I got there first, but I'm sure you've "been there first" on a whole lot more great photo shoots than me!   Glad you like it, and thanks for the advice.  -  John

Hi John, I think you are right on the location.

I went to college at Virginia Intermont as a photo major in Bristol, Va. 30 years ago and took close to the same image with a old battered Calumet 4x5.

How cool is that, Terry?!  William and I have this habit of photographing the same scenes around east & middle TN...and it's always a real treat for me to see how someone "saw" the shot.  I don't suppose you still have a pic or negative of this scene after all years?  If so, I'd love to see it.  I doubt that many  things have changed in  this scene, even after 30 years.  So glad you took the time to let me know your history with this picture.  Regards,  John

I'll see what I can find. You are right about not much of a change that is why it grabbed my attention. When I first started out in photography I loved doing landscapes, then got married had two sons and fell in love with portraits.

John,

This is a beautiful idyllic scene. It reminds me of the Great Smokies National Park – probably because it is or is quite near there.  As a canvass, I think it works well.  It does look more like a painting than a photo.  To me it's the tinkering with the sky and foreground that are over saturated that creates the painted look.  You might want to go back to the original RAW file and process it as a photo on paper to see what you can do with it.  I was drawn to the image because of its painted appearance, but generally prefer more natural looking images.   Nice job.

Almost two years, and I'm just finding your comment Larry.  Thank you!  Yes, the shot was taken in the lower foothills of the Smokies, just outside of Sevierville, Tn. I haven't worked on this shot (printed, on canvas or paper) since I posted...but will eventually get around to it.  I appreciate your taking the time to offer your comments!  Regards, John
