Guest Guest Posted April 18, 2011 Your going to shoot me for this... But this is the one that needed to be a black and white, attire and vintage expression of film noir... Black and White... Keen concept and great expression accents like the gloves etc... Open toe shoes... all say B&W... Cheers MJ Link to comment

craigpjenkinsphotography 0 Posted April 19, 2011 When the light is good enough I see in color and I also dream in color. Leave B & W for night imagery, etc. If this car were 50 - 80 years old then B & W might make better since in this shot. Thanks for sharing (in color). Link to comment
jerrymat 3 Posted April 19, 2011 That facial expression is wonderful, John! Every picture has the power to tell a story, but this one suggests a large possibility of stories. It is fun just to think of all the various plots they could involve. I think you should explain to us whether you did something to evoke that facial expression or whether it happened for some other reason. I also can think of many titles for this, such as "Oh my God! - that is my husband's car!" I guess I will go opposite the majority and vote for color over black & white. I really don't grasp what the reasoning is that open-toed shoes go with lack of color. I sometimes think that black and white photos exist in such importance because they historically came first. If they had started by inventing digital cameras and produced color from the beginning of photography I would hazard a guess that b&w would not find as much appeal.Jerry Link to comment
John Peri 1,027 Posted April 19, 2011 Many thanks to all. Glad you enjoyed the photo but I will not reveal the happening, I think the image should tell the story .. and so much the better if it differs for each of us .. : -)Jerry: Now that is an interesting comment, the last part in particular. I must admit that I have a totally different reason for also liking black and white. Though undoubtedly I find the vintage look you refer to appealing, for whatever the reason, I also favour b & w sometimes because it can reduce the voyeuristic appeal of a photo and render it, lets say more "artistic". Helmut Newton said that "any photographer that says he is not a voyeur is either a fool or a liar", and I have no qualms with that statement, but too much attention is often given to the glamour component of our work, whereas we attempt however modestly sometimes to go beyond that point. That said, of course the girls are pretty in our work, how often does ones photograph an ugly building or scenery, we are genetically programmed to search for beauty and improvement in most of what we do, it is a survival factor. The contrary is a well known symptom of depression and inability to cope. Link to comment

mike_palermiti 2 Posted April 19, 2011 Black and White is the best presentation.Another option would have been to use an old car from the 40's or 50's. Link to comment
