jgalyon 0 Posted April 8, 2011 Bjorn, Would you mind telling us about the tatoo? I don't want to make assumptions. Thanks...John Link to comment
bjorn_moback 2 Posted April 8, 2011 Those Jews who were not killed at once after their arrival at Auschwitz during WWII, were tattoed with a number. Then they had to work like slaves. "Normally" they died after six months of extremely hard work, starvation and lack of medical treatment. -bjorn Link to comment
newmanuk 0 Posted April 11, 2011 The numbers may fade in time As time increases in numbers The memory of those numbers will never fade. For you and the purple triangles Link to comment
jgalyon 0 Posted April 13, 2011 Bjorn, I felt certain about the origins of the tatoo...but wanted a confirmation before commenting. This is an instance in which knowing the background and context offers infinitely more power to, and appreciation of the photograph. The same photograph with the person's arm bearing a tatoo of a butterfly would have little importance to me. Knowing your aunt is a holocaust survivor makes me feel very privileged to be allowed view this photograph. It's seldom that a photograph that allows one to see so little...while seeing so much. This is a very moving photograph that I will place in my favorites folder and share with my friends and family. Warm regards, John Link to comment
