Excellent photo!  I think the thing that made me the most impressed is how much is going on in this image.  I'm used to seeing a lot of photos of close-ups on flowers where the flower is almost the only thing to look at.  In this photo, I like how you incorporated some large flowers up close, and then the DOF is large enough that you can also see clearly all the way out to the water.  Really pleasant coloration too, nice work.

Sean,  Congratulations on a great shot.  You capture the scene well.  It's your success in capturing the calla lillies up front against their bright green leaves in perspective with all the rest that makes the image.  Great job.   Larry

This is a fine version of an iconic Big Sur scene. The composition and DOF are excellent. You also did an impressive job of managing what must have been some challenging, high contrast light conditions. I'd be interested to know how you did this, as it doesn't look HDR processed. I would have preferred it with the horizon more leveled, but that's a minor detail here. Cheers, -Clayton

Hey Clayton,

Yes, this was an HDR capture. 5 shots on a rainy day. I try to add quite a bit of contrast back into the scene in Photoshop after Photomatix does its work — making it look less obvious HDR. I agree on the horizon, should have evened it out a bit. Thanks.
