Having only the perfectly drawn pitch black silhouette of the Totem Pole in front of a background showing no detail at all with only that superb color transition from warm orange to deep blue light gives a great minimalistic shot. The composition is neat and strong too. A great almost abstract picture! Kind regards, Jan

Jan: The previous evening I made this shot, there were many clouds in the sky and I was visualizing colorful clouds lighting up at dawn behind the totem pole. However, there were almost none that chilly morning, but the colors behind the totem pole were still great. It was a humbling experience to stand there in front of the massive ~450ft totem pole and watch the Sun come up from behind.
