Please view this larger. This is Kootenay Lake in Nelson, British

Columbia. As always, I value and appreciate your taking the time to

Impressive image, with all the elements I love, water, bridges, boats, mountains and not least the low banks of mist. The slight breeze on the water gives it a nice texture that form an interesting interplay with the horizontals from the bridge.

Nice work Larry!

Larry - great composition and the exposure seems to be spot on. I like the fact the the low lying cloud is the background to the bridge structure. I also think that having the two boats where they are balances the  composition and that is pleasing to the eye.

I have taken a look at the larger version and my appreciation increases. There is a 'however' - when i viewed it larger the boat on the left shows evidence of movement which is to be expected. I proceeded to look at the details and I found ISO 100, 2 sec exposure at f22. H-m-m-m! I think I would have grabbed this one 'as is' and then go for a few more shots without moving the camera. I might have then taken a series of shots but changing the aperture to around f11 (I know about the DOF but you already have this shot inder your belt) and make a faster shutter speed commensurate with the change in aperture. That might freeze any movement. I would then go a step further and increase the ISO for the third shot and gain an even better shutter speed/combo. I try to avoid shooting at f22 since all of the gurus say you get better DOF but this is not an optimum aperture for most lens.

Hopefully you are shooting RAW.

You now have 3 images when you are back on the Mac and you have options.

I may have written much here but my intention was to be helpful.

All the best,

Hi Tony,   I actually did most of what you suggested.  I have several images taken at different exposures.  I even merged a few to see what would happen, but the movement in the boats caused their masts to be screwed up. Interesting, I have had the habit of shooting at f/22 or even higher to capture the depth of field.  My time was really tight as I was working in this area.   I will think of toying more with varied f stops.  Of course, I shoot everything in RAW. Thanks for sharing your ideas.   Larry

Just as an added bit of info. I too was under the illusion that higher F stops would give a greater DOF, but since found this simply doesn't hold up and in fact gives a slightly less sharp image. I still use f22, but only on shots where I deliberately want a longer exposure, otherwise f8 - f11 seem like the optimum apertures for landscape. Its also worth noting "Hyperfocal distance" there are all kinds of means of measuring the hyperfocal distance, even an app for the iphone which will calculate it to give perfect dof, a bit of an indepth subject, but well worth investigating.

The first light in the Rockies, always magical. The fog in the background, nicely highlighting the bridge. It is a nice image.

Cheers.

Hi Larry. Absolutely beautiful you have captured the essence of B.C's mountain areas with plenty of foggy & overcast days.with this very well seen & composed image .Every time I visit these images, feel like packing up & heading west. Thanks for your comments on my winter scene with the halos around the trees, I accidentally deleted this image . Have submited another version without the halos by reducing the overall saturation . Sincerely hope for Happy Holidays & a rewarding New Year. Best Regards-Ross

Kevin,  Thanks for visiting my images.  This is one of my favorite locations in British Columbia.  Nelson is a small artistic town with wonderful people and amazing nature.  I will revisit your sheep image.  Larry
