CF-116 (F5) Detail

LenMarriott

Detail photographed on museum tour with fellow PNer WJ (Bill) Gibson. 1 sec @ f16 Tripod. B&W seemed a better choice than the colour of the original. LM.

You had the eye and the fortune to see and capture. This is very essence of the best of traditional B&W photography. I am anxious to see more and more of your work. Best regards

Thanks for your thoughts.  I'm anxious to SHOW more & more.  :-)  Stay tuned.  This aircraft was indoors in a museum and attempting to show the whole machine in such an environment was fruitless, the backgrounds being so cluttered & uncontrollable.   So I opted for a detail which shows the beautiful curves and smooth metallic surfaces.  Wouldn't want to foot the bill for the fuel these planes must have used.  Oh, wait a minute, I DID foot the bill.  :-(  Best, LM.

This part of airlane looks like woman being parts( wild imagination isn't it? ) it is smooth, neary "soft" and beaituful. Good idea to photo only this  part and not the whole steel monster...;-)) nice B/W ,well chosen part and nicely composed.

Nice to have your appraisal.  This plane may have curves like a woman's body but I actually laid my hands on this machine & it doesn't feel like a lady.   I guess it could reflect the attributes of a few of the opposite gender; hard, cold, humorless, and spits fire!  But I personally don't know anyone like that. :-)   On the flip side, caressed by the hands of a skilled pilot, I suppose it would respond favourably.  Retired by the Canadian Air Force in 1995, a couple of years before me, I guess we both belong in a museum.  Best, LM.

Funny- I saw the word "tada" initially! I thought that's why you took the photo! An interesting play of shadows.

Thanks for the feedback.  Yah, you have to look deep into the shadows for the rest of the stencil, CANADA.  Plus, no shadows, no curves.  Best, LM.

Hi Len:

Greetings from the depths of northern Ontario.

Your shot compelled me to look up the CF116. I should have known it since I've  been alive long enought to have the AVRO Arrow fly over me.

Your choice of what to shoot shows that you have 'the eye'. Great work!

Regards, John

Good of you to weigh in here.  Nice to hear from someone who probably had it colder this past winter than I did.  Which accounts for the museum shots.  (nice & toasty in there, November to February)  Alas,  the lack of room to fit in the whole airplane and the terrible backgrounds forced me into some detail shots. Not really a bad exercise though. I'll post another soon.   'When handed a lemon, make lemonade' as the saying goes.  Do you have any shots of the Arrow in the air?  Goin' back a bit, but you never know.  Best, LM.

A very well crafted composition Len,  the repetition of diagonal lines and the addition of opposing diagonal lines gives the eye an easy and clear route to follow, as if following the line of the letter Z,  well done.

Thanks for taking the time to convey your observations.  I see some of your own portfolio images are rich with interesting curves.  :-)  Will pay a visit soon to view them at a more leisurely pace.  Best, LM.
