I did some similar things with some unknown to me filter and asked myself: Did I do it? That's to say, Tony did you intend to this or just tried the filter!

I've been expirimenting with this type of circular repetive pattern for a few years now.  Some call these "mandellas" and they are said to represent peace and harmony.  The technique involves copying, pasting, flipping and rotating in Photoshop layers, using different blending modes.  Each one is a little different, depending upon what I have to start with and what I think looks good as I progress through it.  Although experience has taught me what generally works well and what doesn't, I never really know what will result until I am done, and that's part of the fun of it!
