This bubble-gum-chewing young woman blows a huge bubble which

almost exactly superimposes over the round light behind and forms

nearly the same shape and same luminescence as the remaining lights

visible on this Metro car. Your ratings, critiques and remarks are invited

and most welcome. If you rate harshly, very critically, or wish to make

an observation, please submit a helpful and constructive comment;

please share your photographic knowledge to help improve my

photography. Thanks! Enjoy! John

It took many attempts with this girl right above me, and they were all failures.  I couldn't get it framed right, not viewing through the viewfinder, even though set on 'wide angle' but not wide enough.

The background also was wrong.  It was a dark coat, a face, and a bubble at the top of the frame - poor composition and worse, poor focus.  A disaster for all frames.  I vowed to keep trying.

She and her mates, who were having a wonderful time, moved down the coach, and the new background for the bubble was a hatch in the subway behind and above the bubble.

Still a failure (no cigar!) since there was a bubble, but it was not synchronous with the composition, especially the background.  I still was shooting without viewfinder to eye. I hoped for better.  (So did the guy, Tolya, in the seat next to me who was keeping an eye on my shooting and enjoying it.

Finally, still shooting from my lap, my subject moved a little, and I got this -- bubble perfectly framed.

I really like this one; I consider it 'humorous' just as you do, but also synchronous, as the round bubble overlaps the round light and takes a place in the lineup of lights, all of which have a regularity, so the bubble 'fits in' to the scenery, yet is totally out of place.  It 'fits in' yet it's 'out of place' for a nice contrast.

The fellow passenger, a stranger, Tolya, saw this and shook my hand in congratulations and for sharing with him as he left the Metro car.  I felt like I'd made a friend in four short stops.

What a nice way to lead a life!  Instant feedback from a stranger!

(Mathematics from early returns reveals that early on one rater gave it a '1' rating, which accounts for the very low average - otherwise the ratings would be MUCH higher.  There was a spoiler out there.  Shame! Or just that rater's myopia.  Ah, well, it takes all kinds.)

Oh, I very seldom shoot without eye to viewfinder - generally it's recipe for disaster, but in this case, she had several mates, and their dispositions could not be determined as they were quite voluble, and I was cautious for my safety . . . . but probably needn't have been in view of later events as it developed they were having a grand time and really probably would have enjoyed this one.

I hope they get to see it and enjoy it.

Thank you for a brief, but insightful comment.

And where would the 'good photographer' be without those young people with 'bad habits'?

I delight in the freshness of youth and their often lack of inhibitions (not always, but often).

It's not nature's 'purest' state, but it's sometimes delightful, especially for this dedicated watcher of humans.

Thanks for YOUR perspective.

From this starry pook (old fart).
