I copied the background layer and applied a motion blur filter to the top layer at an angle and used multiply for the layer blending mode. I then flattened the image and used Silver EfexPro2 for the B&W conversion. One thing you can do in SilverEfex is simulate the grain in a film negative and I did that for this.

Very creative. I like the angle of the landscape in the background. Your B&W treatment is absolutely super. It's an inspiration, Chuck.

Having Photoshop, but not knowing how to use it is like being outside in the cold,  licking the plate from last night's dinner, while imagining you are feasting on fresh hot food.

Yes. If you're into photography it is well worth spending time learning how to use Photoshop. Some people learn it on their own, but taking a college class or two is a good introduction. The more you work with Photoshop, the better you get at it too.

This has that apocalyptic, end-of-the-world vibe about it like a scene from a gritty science fiction movie. The high contrast is very effective here as she grimaces in the face of a solar storm

This is a powerful image.  Great use of techniques to make it happen, and a nice capture, well done!
