alberto.conde 0 Posted February 9, 2003 Would appreciate your comments on composition. Is the tower too centered or is it balanced by that patch of open sky? Link to comment
Mike Marcotte 49,891 Posted February 9, 2003 I think the photo is well balanced & I like the way the shoreline vanishes into the horizon just under that patch of blue. Very pleasing to the eye. Link to comment
buck_gremel 0 Posted February 9, 2003 Not much to be said here: it's beautiful. From the looks of it, you got a little wet to get this one. Link to comment
sjmurray 33,475 Posted February 9, 2003 I think the composition is great. I love the muted tones. Looks like a water color. A beautiful place! Link to comment
bgelfand 1,237 Posted February 9, 2003 Very nice composition and color tone. A beautiful photo. Link to comment
mmarengo 0 Posted February 9, 2003 Definitely too centered, against all rules of compositions!!! No, I'm kidding (in reference to the reactions I got on a comment I posted on another photo ;-) Seriously, I like this photo a lot, and I think the composition is just right and well balanced. I also like the colors, and the mood they give to the photo. Let's break the (compositional) rules! Right? Link to comment
alberto.conde 0 Posted February 9, 2003 As Carlos Morales says the only rules to be kept are the Aircraft Flying Rules! As for photography you simply need to follow your aesthetical instincts. The rules are in our guts!! Link to comment
costin_raiu 0 Posted February 9, 2003 Alberto, I took the liberty of enhancing the colors a little bit, adding more saturation and trying to darken the bright area of clouds. Result attached, take a look. Link to comment
alberto.conde 0 Posted February 9, 2003 You clearly did a good job although, to my particular taste, the cyans a re a bit too strongYou remind me of a good Romanian friend I made when I was an addict to .Sig, Claudiu Ionescu, an expert on printing (that's he's job) and on manipulating CYMK files in Photoshop. He taught me a lot. So, Hail to Romania and its masters of colour! Link to comment
dennis_krizek 0 Posted February 11, 2003 Alberto, I have been studying your portfolio and enjoy viewing your photography. Your lens seems to capture effortlessly what I would like to some day to be able to capture. I am relatively new to photography/computers--you made some kind coments about one of my first attempts....thank you. dennis Link to comment
mclaine 0 Posted February 11, 2003 1 I like this picture a lot 2 I appreciate the effort to add some notes on the historical context. 3 Thanks for sharing it. Link to comment
vincetylor 0 Posted February 11, 2003 I think that the composition is outstanding. Centered just right in my opinion. However, as much as I like and use Velvia, this would be a difficult film to handle these particular conditions. The clouds (especially near the sun) are a bit bright, yet the shadows are almost black....a true weakness of Velvia. The only other help might have been the use of an ND grad filter. It would truly have brought the lighter sky much closer to the darker bottom in this case. Possibly lightening the bottom in Photoshop, or lowering contrast can also help some. Here is a feeble attempt. Even so, this is still a nice capture Alberto. Link to comment
alberto.conde 0 Posted February 11, 2003 I really appreciate your effort and like it very much. In fact this shot was part of the first roll shot with my very new camera (the N80) delivered to me a couple of days before. It was, as well, my first ever attempt at using VelviaI had been more than 15 years without shooting slides at all and having, almost, abandoned my earlier serious interest in photography. I am learning a lot during these last 12 months listening to your advices. Thanks to all of you, friends Link to comment
vincetylor 0 Posted February 11, 2003 Alberto, you picked up an excellent camera! The N-80 will take professional images, just as good as the F-5 or F-100. The only real difference is that the F-5 is built like a tank...you could actually hammer nails with it if needed. The F-100 is pretty good, though not as tough as the F-5. Other than that and some extra speed, there is very little difference. Many of my best images were taken with the N-70 (replaced by the N-80) and a very inexpensive Tamron 28-200 zoom. How I miss those days of only one camera and lens. Now, I shoot with two cameras and an entire backpack of gear. I am getting too old for this! Velvia works wonders when the sun is behind you, and very well at an angle. It's worst situation is with backlighting and no filters to help. Still, your composition did make up for much indeed with this image! Best, Vince Link to comment
alberto.conde 0 Posted February 11, 2003 Oh my!! If I tell you my story...!After a two week vacation in Mexico back in 1987, visiting DF, Oaxaca, Monte Alban, Tula,Puerto Escondido and Huatulco before being discovered, I arrived to the airport to board my plane back to Spain... I had with me my bag full of photo gear:A Nikon F3 with motor drive, 28mm, 43-86mm, 55mm NoctNikkor, 135mm and 200mm plus filters, flash and all the rest. And some 30 rolls of exposed slidesA moment of distraction... andAll gone!!That's why I quit photography for almost a decade!! Link to comment
sigfridlopez 0 Posted February 11, 2003 Excelente composición. Increíbles tonalidades. Los reflejos adecuados. Todo cuadra. Wow! Link to comment
jeff_damron 0 Posted February 11, 2003 I guess your question about composition has been answered. I agree with the others - this is a great composition. I like the delicate colors, and would not have guessed you used Velvia for this shot. Link to comment
glabarca 0 Posted February 11, 2003 Exelente Alberto. Hace dias que no entreba en PN y fue una estupenda sorpresa verte en el primer lugar de la primera página, me alegró la tarde. Como tu sabes yo no se nada de fotografía a color, solo puedo decirte que esta me dejo muy impresionado. Link to comment
ben neptun 0 Posted February 13, 2003 Uh... hope? Hope for what?! Hope is not the feeling I get when I look at this picture. I like the subject here but I'm not getting the theme of this picture. It seems too dark and boring for me. Link to comment
alberto.conde 0 Posted February 13, 2003 Can't help you, Ben. If you are not able to understand neither the title nor the image I cannot help you, so sorry. Link to comment
