HOMELESS MEMORIAL

Thanks for your kind comments on my abstract.  I'm sorry I haven't visited lately.  It's primarily the result of laziness.

In any case, this photograph really grabbed my eye.  Aside from its technical merits (well composed, dramatic colors, etc.), it is a telling indictment of this country's treatment of homeless people.  How suitable it is for a memorial to them to be under a bridge or an overpass.

There are an awful lot of markers here, and the markers look as impermanent as their housing. What are the markers made of? I am glad somebody has taken the time to note the passing of these lives. Did you speak to anybody while you were here?

In spite of this makeshift installation, and feeling of precariousness, this picture conveys a  pervasive sense of spirit...

Linda, I answered the question about seeing or talking to anybody on the previous post, but as to what these are made of, I don't know. I didn't take the time to fully inspect them. I think they are pieces of styrofoam, but, if they are, they had to have some way of keeping them from blowing away.

Styrofoam is the impression I get too. I wonder how they do keep them in place. I also wonder if names are scratched into them or painted/written on. So many questions!

Yes, there are names on them.
