The tea growing season of June to October sees temperatures in excess

of 30 degrees Celsius. Leguminous trees are planted at regular intervals

to provide moderate shade to the growing tea plants. They also serve to

somewhat protect the plants from high winds and hail. "Addition of

organic matter by leaf fall, prevention of soil moisture during the dry

winter months, reduction of red spider incidence, etc., are the other

benefits of shade."

Rainfall is a crucial aspect in tea growing but the water cannot be

allowed to flood the plants (unlike rice) and quick and efficient drainage

is equally crucial. "Open drainage system consists of a net work of field

drains, collector drains and the main drain which discharges into natural

drainage channels such as hullahs, streams or rivers. They are

advantageous for removing large volumes of water from tea fields with

minimum cost."

I like the corner perspective forming a V for the eyes to follow into the image, and the fresh new growth of the tea plants. I also enjoyed reading the narrative, very informative.

Best Regards

Great perspective, Rajat.  And, as an enthusiastic drinker of estate black teas, I appreciate the information you've provided.  Nicely done. All the best...Bill
