rekaras 0 Posted March 17, 2011 the clouds structure were the main focus of this image anchored by the line of trees and sand in the foreground. the colors of the dawn were an incredible blend on this March morning at Lake Michigan. comments welcome Link to comment
stp 6 Posted March 17, 2011 Richard, this one doesn't grab me as strongly as your photos usually do, and I think it's because the only tree that seems to be visible in its entirety is the second from the left (maybe the third as well -- not sure). Certainly the tree on the left is originating on the other side of the dune, and those in the lower right corner are almost an afterthought. As a result, for me this line of trees just isn't well-defined or as integrated into the photo as I think they should be. I do like the soft colors and forms of the clouds, and I can sense the calm of a late winter morning on a very broad landscape. Link to comment
alfbailey 1 Posted March 18, 2011 I can see why the sky would be so compelling, the colours are really beautiful. I can fully appreciate where Stephen is coming from though, the tree's to the right of the image don't serve to enhance the image in any way. What does work as an alternative is cropping the image to a potrait view. Crop from just right of the second tree to the right, and just a strip off the extreme left of the image. You do lose a bit of colour from the right, but it seems to work better from a compositional view.Best RegardsAlf Link to comment

mcollier 0 Posted March 18, 2011 Richard, it looks cropped for composition, but nothing really anchors this shot in the foreground and their isn't any particular center of interest. The sky looks active but could use a bit more contrast to emphasize the clouds. Link to comment
