pnital 36 Posted March 14, 2011 Patrick Cohen, is a French violinist and conductor which came to do an art class and play with the Baroque Israeli Ensemble. It was taking place in the Jerusalem theater.A great musical event.( photographed in a rehearsal). Thanks for viewing. Link to comment
Apurva Madia 0 Posted March 14, 2011 Pnina, This is wonderful. Composition with the geometrical elements of violin and bow, the facial expression the light etc are great. Only if you could dodge on the face to light it up more. Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 266 Posted March 15, 2011 I can see how he works hard to get the beautiful sounds out of the instrument, well posed and composed with nice subdued colors and technically very well done especially for the lighting circumstances!Cheers PninaPDE Link to comment
aarkp 2 Posted March 15, 2011 a fine pov and composition, a precious moment... perfect exposure in the available light... his concentration and immersion in his music communicates... Link to comment
LindaM 2 Posted March 15, 2011 I love the intensity of his expression and the slight motion blur of his hand and bow! Link to comment
tonyfrench 0 Posted March 15, 2011 Pnina, I like that he is also a conductor as the position of the hand and the way the light is striking the bow it also resembles a conductors baton. The black background is perfect for the wood tone of the instrument and his silvery hair. Link to comment
kallol 1 Posted March 16, 2011 Wonderful portrait, Pnina...lovely expression and light...my best Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted March 18, 2011 To all of you for your nice comments and reffering to his devotion to his art which is felt according to my point of view.Apurva, thanks for your remark, but on my monitor it is as it was on stage, rehearsing.(but it took me a second look... and it is good). Jack McRitchie 150 Posted March 19, 2011 Very nice, Pnina. The mixture of crisp clarity (the left hand) and motion blur (the right) together with the intensity of his concentration gives this picture the feeling that time has been temporarily suspended and that any moment now he will resume his playing and music will come bursting from my monitor. Donna Stavis 0 Posted March 19, 2011 Pnina, I love this because of his focus and the subject matter, the lighting and small details like the motion, and most of all because there is a human quality to him -- a shirt that's too big, an imperfect nose, -- a clunkiness that makes him seem accessible. A suggestion of a life beyond that of music Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted March 19, 2011 Thanks both of you ! Patrik Cohen is a very good looking elegant musician,(Donna it is a rehearsal, you should see him in the concert...;-)) but especially as you felt Jack, he is a great violinist and musician . It was a great experience to hear his music with the ensemble, a real pleasure. Link to comment
gunnar1664882369 1 Posted March 20, 2011 Perfect portrait of musician! Another great use of light to present an artist with a dark background. Link to comment
ndj 0 Posted March 21, 2011 An outstanding portrait of this 1st class musician Pnina! I like the fact you used a slow enough shutterspeed to allow the viewer to see movement, but not blur the facial features. Superb use of available light. All the best,Neil Link to comment
celasun 0 Posted March 22, 2011 Perfect... as expected of you.Very good composition even under those circumstances.Did he play Bach, whom I adore? Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted March 23, 2011 Guunar, I'm glad you like this one, great musician this man is.Nail, glad to see you here,I always try to use available light if I can, thanksBulent, yes it was Bach, Remo ,Vivaldi, and some others. A great pleasure. Link to comment
jkilgo 0 Posted April 17, 2011 I like this portrait...though his face is in shadow...it does not matter...the focus is on the violin and the action of the muscian as he plays...I really like the highlights on the instrument and the slight blur to his right arm and hand. Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted May 6, 2011 Wonderful shot! Although I also like the blur, the thing I like most is his intense expression. When I play I must look like that, because often my eyes will dry out from not blinking enough. There is an intense concentration required to play any instrument, but especially the detailed and transparent baroque repertoire. I'm intrigued by his position and wonder if he uses a chin rest on his instrument. You may not know the answer to that, but if you see him again you might ask him. Just curious..... :-) Pnina, I wish you were here to photograph me!!! :-) Believe it or not, I've never had a professional picture done of myself playing....with my instrument, yes, but not playing. They're difficult to pull off well, but you've done a nice job with this one. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted May 7, 2011 Thanks for your nice impressions, being a musician yourself it is more interesting for me, and appreciated. I really don't heve an answer for your question about his chin rest,he is from France so came for a very short visit, but I will ask. Also he is a great violinist.BTW where do you live I may come to hear your music and photograph you on the same time ! ;-)) Link to comment
raymondborg 0 Posted April 3, 2014 Beautiful capture of the violinist. Love the slight blur in his left hand against the sharp face and instrument. Well done Pnina.I was surprised to see in your portfolio a folder with shots taken in Malta and thanks for your comment. Congrats. Link to comment
