This is my first attempt at creating a texture and using it in a photo. Would

love to hear how I could improve this image. I am grateful for your time and

C&C. Thank you.

If you are going to give me a rating of 1 at least have the guts to comment on what could be so bad and provide criticism on how I can improve. You are very cowardly.

I'm curious Peter, how could you find out someone gave you a rating of 1 ???? Of course I'd think it must have been a 'slip' by someone, or a very insane individual (no other explanation).

That 'oddity' aside, I LOVE THIS COMPOSITON..........what a sweetheart. Who could refuse that face anything??? I think you did a fantastic job. Your colors are true, the canvas texture looks great, the textures  within the comp, or brush strokes truly look like a painting.  Love your definition and special attention to detail, I can see the fine hairs in the face. Excellent effort and presentation. My sincere regards, Gail

Pierre, the best compliment I could get is to have a photo be considered a "work of art"! Thank you very much!

Gail, the only reason I know that I got a "1" was the first time I checked the ratings I had only 1 rating at the time and the average score was "1". I've been admiring your work for some time and am honored to get such encouraging words from you. I've been working hard at improving my skills and comments like this let me know that the work is paying off and it inspires me to keep it up. Thank you very much!

Peter

Hi Peter:

This is just super. The composition is great. I like how you have the eye sharp. Great job on the texture.

Regards, John

I like your canvas treatment of this image.  The only way I can see to improve it would have been to include all the dog's front legs in the shot...but that would be just my personal choice.   Something like that really just comes down to an aesthetic choice on the part of the photographer.

Very well done. The texture and the way you have done the layers and blending are effective to emphasize the detail and color of this very nice dog's face and one ear and less so, the rest of the body. My only suggestion would be to bring out a bit more of the tail for a complete silhouette (I'm assuming you did several layer masks and texture layers with different brush flow and opacity and hardness - so you might consider including the tail at the level you did the back legs).

John, thanks for the encouraging words, I really appreciate it.

Jim, about the front legs, I agree that it would have been great to have them in the shot - I didn't get them because this dog was so friendly that every time I got down to his level he would just run at me ready to play so I had to take this shot fast while he was momentarily distracted and I didn't get his front legs in.

Anne, thanks for the compliment on the texture blending. The reason I don't have more of the tail is not so much due to overlaying layer opacity as much as DOF. I had the aperture at 1.6 so the face is naturally sharp and the tail being the farthest away and being white got lost.

Hi Peter, cute picture. This guy is beautiful and you have done a remarkable work. I like a lot the post-processing, it is like a paint.  I also like the composition, especially its face in foreground companied with the rest of its body in blurred background.
A really good job, congrats. 7

I don't know how anyone could give you a 1 but unfortunately those kind of people do exist here on PN; try not to let it discourage you because it isn't worth the time. I think you did a great job here with the composition and the texture; color is great too. Absolutely adorable model; how could anyone not love this image? If his feet had been visible that would have been nice, but for me it doesn't make the photo any less wonderful! Great job! Thank you for sharing. :)
