Yes, it's a simple photo.  But ask that question of a person without sight, or ask that question of a person who is bedridden.  Suddenly this simple photo isn't so simple any longer, and it's beautiful beyond words.  We tend to take much for granted, including the ability to see. 

But as a sighted person, I think the sunbeams streaming through the clouds is always a welcomed component in a photograph, and the fact that the light hits on water makes that more luminous than if it had all been land, so you were fortunate in that respect.  The very dark clouds on the horizon and their contrast to the much lighter clouds overhead contribute to the overall image as well.  While I can see some small amount of detail on the land, the silhouette is fine, due primarily to the very bright strip of water in front of it.
