I prefer this color shot, despite Donna's opinion.

The moment is so well engaged here with your eyes and the capabilities of your camera set up, wonderful image for this powerful bird at his attempt to fly, the lighting is remarkable and so the details and you have so well engineered the composition also.

I'm very pleased one of the versions appealed to you.  I thought this colored version might draw attention away from the action of him taking flight.  The sky seemed to draw my attention to it so I felt b&w might bring all the attention back to the hawk's take off.

Very impressive shot..!!!  I am not sure whether you randomly shot couple of sequence or you just waited for this to happen. Either way AWESOME. Only suggestion would be it lacks lil bit of sharpness. I understand it's hard to control some times. specially with birds least the chance.
