This old barn stood for years within sight from my parents front

porch...but then a year or two ago a wind storm tore part of the roof

off...the owner finished the job and tore the barn to the ground.

Another quarter century and we won't see many of these old relics of

a time when building such a structure with oak was affordable..and

farmers could actually afford to farm...

John, I think you have a really nice composition going here.  You have some nice layers, starting with the fence, then the grass, then the main subject (the barn and its roof), then the lone cloud in the blue sky.  All of those horizontal shapes kind of ryhmn with each other.  Nicely done.  The one thing I might experiment with is the color.  I do add a bit of saturation to my images, but I tend to like a more realistic look. Others, of course, may disagree.   Another interesting option might be to try a black and white conversion, after all, your compositional elements are pretty strong.  Good eye for catching this historical building!  (I'll try to add a quickie B&W version...just to compare.)

Here is a very crude B&W conversion.  With time, and with layers, you might be able to differentiate a bit better between the various subjects in your image.  I'm thinking color might be better after trying this...

Daniel, Thanks for your thoughtful comments and critique.  Concerning saturation...I looked at the larger version of this image (which I hadn't done after posting) and only then did I realize how over-saturated it is.  I don't mind going well past "realistic" at times...but it was a bit over the top even by my standards.  Thanks for gently pointing it out. I like your b&w version and will give it a try.  I'm a big fan of b&w and monotone photos, but to be honest...I just haven't spent sufficient time in PS learning to make good conversions. There are so many ways to go about it, and I suppose theirs a bit of apprehension on my part...but I need to take the plunge!
