Wonderful moment captured... :)  The couple riding into the light, into the unknown creates intrigue and I LOVE intrigue!

extraordinary perspective and light play, maestro, managing in all your beautiful capture of building and water to keep the cyclers the main subject and humanizing force... again, you make it look easy, which it is not. ;-} dp

many peoples critique here is based on name of photographer and subordinacy, rather than actual quality of work.

nice tonality, but that is all here..

Boris... your tonal work is fabulous.

an Andrea picture pieces together with a tonal precision that sincerely fascinates so many of us, and provides us with a very special high level of aesthetic pleasure...  look at the work of many who admire him so much, and i believe the standards in their work will reflect why Andrea's work is considered such high art. ;-}

Boris, you have a very different style, or approach to a subject, and it's lively and fresh. But I can't see that as a reason to shoot down someone else's viewpoint. I may not see a lot of life in this image, but I do see great harmony.

I think it's in between Boris and the rest. Number one of this series is far superior on this one. Why calling nr 1..?! Water only playing a partial role in an image, mostly is very dull, difficult or problamatic. Especially with this kind of massivity above it. In nr one the water part wasn't on it's own and playing a partial role, on the contrary. Is this one bad? No, just less interesting, just different. Yes, Andrea did his utmost, this was "all" there (!) was.

If we put a photographer nearly on forehand in Heaven, where do we have to put him eventually once being there..? Worshipping an idol in Heaven is not done. Here it's more than just silly, it's pitiable. The worst you can do with a photographer is taking him every time on your shoulders..! Andrea de Bonis is a mán, not a spoiled child.

Olaf, whether or not de Bonis is a man or a child is of zero interest to me; that he is a consistently innovative and superior artist is the important interest. plenty people will take the critical approach to his work, find fallibilities in some picture of his, and this is healthy for the artist and the community. but an artist like de Bonis deserves celebration and praise for his art we take pleasure in. to have a discussion about whether praising an exceptional artist's work is silly and pitiable is what is truly silly and pitiable. let's end discussion about the commentators and talk about the picture in front of us.  dp

..the dispute about photographers is of the same relevancy as that regarding photography. let me reason here - I saw it so many times - an average (or bad) photography gets dozens of comments, most of them nearly adoratic, and you even dont have to go to authors profile to realize - published by me, or some other unknown author - it will get something like 1-2 comments.. as it deserves..

and as always - I will be honest - yes, we envy that.. a little.

but the Point is- this trend can Destroy this place (or any gallery, virtually as they may or may not be), and it just can destroy any human activity.

the tendency to Follow, to adore, to go with the stream.. to seek Values where they are not.

hence, I will stand in opposition and simply - I will tell my opinion.

Boris... art is about communication... it's about connecting. any opposition, under any circumstancesto appreciation or to making a civilized connection is the only thing that "can destroy any human activity." i suddenly feel like i'm on a cycle in the picture, riding side by side with each commentator in this discussion; but that's just because i keep going back to this picture, which i obviously appreciate and find pleasant ;-} dp

I am commenting this photo not because it is Andrea´s (and Andrea is one of the very top photographers in PN), but because I find this photo an impressive. Very tasteful and strong composition, great control of light and excellent bw tonality. OK, quite many can work for strong compostion, light control and bw tonality, but there is always something special in Andrea´s photos in addition. Difficult to explain what exactly, there is a sence and soul or something deeper. I like the series a lot.

i read this discussion with the attention that my english permit. first, let me say thanks. second, buran is right. first, he is right saying the long permenence in pn help in receiving comments. and also in having better comments. for this reason i stopped to write many comments and ask for ratings, btw. also if this is not important at all. maybe someone need this kind of satisfaction, i dont know. anyway, not me.

second, buran is right about the quality of the photos. who knows me here personally (more than 20 pn members), knows very well that i dont like my photos. but know also that this happen becouse i have an high consideration of myself about capacity to understand photos, so i talk with some reasons.

i dont know the portfolio of buran, but in mine there are only 3 photos that could obtain a 5,5. hoping he can recognize them.

where bugan is not right, is in the way of communication. too serious...somewhere unpleasant and with a little bit of acrimony .

it's only a joke, buran, life is not here, here you find only (non printed) photos

sorry for the torture of my english, ciao

Ho sempre ammirato i tuoi scatti "di strada" e questo ne è un ulteriore stupendo esempio. Nelle tue foto c'è sempre un senso profondo della "solitudine" cosa che mi affascina ma che mi fa sempre una gran paura!

An image is appealing for many reasons.  Composition, subject matter, fine details, humor, technical perfection and the list goes on...

When it's all said and done, an image is a work of art.  Thereby it's judged by the viewer's relationship to the image.  Some may appreicate it's obvious beauty, where others may be taken with it's techincal merit.  But the bottom line is - a viewer enjoys it, comments on it and rates it based upon their personal reaction to it.

I agree with the Gunnar's comment above, as there is a "feel and look" to Andrea's work that can't be denied.  Maybe it's more about having an eye for compostion and capturing the image at the exact right moment.  I don't know, but I do know it somehow has his style and signature all over it when he posts it.  I can almost always tell one of his images even before I see the name of the photographer.  I think that says something for his style as it's tangible and noteworthy.

Just my two cents worth of thoughts.

Hello Andrea,

I have been commenting and rating your pictures which appeal to me and which I like for several years.  Although i tried to understand the whole discussion here, I gave up.

I just want to tell you I like this picture.
