We were very pleased with this sighting, as this species only lives in

the South Western tip of Western Australia. Not very prolific in terms of

numbers due to the ever increasing Kookaburra population (that eat

the young).

An overcast and windy day really only gave me a shot at this fellow....

heaven only knows where the other 106 species (bragged about in the

literature) were.

Nevertheless.... he is rather cute.

Comments very welcome.......... regards

Hi Graham. Is this a juvy or female. Just a hint of yellow on cheek? Great shot birds are hard and if you only get a snatch!,.... regards miken

Hi Mike.... thanks for stoppng by. I think this is a female as my Oz bird book shows the males with full red fronts. Unfortunately the book doesn't show juveniles so I suppose I could have a 50/50 choice situation.

Hi Grayham

I can relate to this situation, only to well, however, a very nicely composed shot considering one has to be quick with the rarer sightings.
