As well, the square frame and her placement in it, so to not cut off her hair, really appeals to me even though it probably breaks quite a few text book rules of composition.

One wee question. The detail of the wrinkles on people's hands tends to age them. Have you considered softening up her hands just a bit? It's not that they are by any means aged, but they are in a prominent place.
