One of those rare being in the right place at the right time moments. I

was driving home from work one day in 2004 and pulled over to take

this from a layby with a 5MP compact.

Thanks for looking. Your comments would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Chris:

Beautiful pastoral scene. We grow a lot of canola where I live and I am used to seeing it; however, not in such a remarkable setting. The detail  and contrast are striking (just love the holsteins on the hill). It really stands up against the horrible compression that photo.net forces us to use. Serendipity or not, this is a great photo.

The contrast is extremely dramatic, and that is a good thing.  Very good thing!   The sky is absolutely ominous, the oppeness of the fields gives the sensation of being so exposed and at risk.    My only nit would be the horizon is just about dead center.  Cropping out maybee 1/3 of the sky might make it an even more interesting  composition.    Thumbs up for this shot!!

The light is amazing and the high contrast creates a great graphic impact! I agree with Thomas about cropping some of the sky though. It's a great result for a small compact camera, but on my screen it seems that some highlights in the field are a little blown and some details got lost. You've captured a wonderful scene! Kind regards, Jan

Thanks guys, your comments are much appreciated.

I've since realised this camera was actually only 3.2MP !

Re: highlights: I have boosted the contrast a little and darkened the sky a touch for this version, but looking at the original the highlights are blown (in places). I took another favorite photo during the session, and that one doesn't suffer in the same way:

Yea there is a hot spot lower right, and the area where ground and sky collide but took into consideration the equipment used for this.

Colors are incredible, really awesome and unique! You've been very lucky to witness this scene, with this combination of colors and contrast! Meravigliosa!
