In this photo I find too much chaos and nothing really grabbing me. There is no real center of attention. In my opinion, use a larger lens and drop to the ground. Single out one bird while still showing others in the background. Look at Canada Geese (hope that link works) as an example of what I feel is a more effective shot of a situation not unlike this.

Doug, the link you suggested works. I have had a good look at the photo. However, I'm not completely convinced by your argument. I really like this kind of natural chaos - whether it grabs someone or not. Thanks for your interesting critique.

I'm with you, Sam. This kind of image actually 'grabs' my attention. In some way, it reminded me of those crowded penguin colony shots that we have all seen at some time, or another...

Most importantly, I see this was shot on Texel!

Spent some time there, when I was a bit younger.
